Today, after the July 2018 Patch Tuesday session for my wife’s Surface tablet she started complaining about everything locking up and her computer crashing. This was a problem because she had a large number of documents to scan in, which meant that I had a problem as well.
Some research shows that the bulk of the Epison drivers have not been updated in some time — as in they have not been updated to work properly in all cases for Windows 10 users (especially 64bit users).
For those running into this problem the simple fix here is to ensure that the scanner application runs in Windows Compatibility Mode
Right click on the app, find properties, under the compatibility mode tab enable compatibility mode
After setting the compatibility mode to Windows XP (SP3) everything seems to be resolved. Ideally Epison fixes their drivers but I’m not holding my breath.
